Tri-Beta Honor Society

Associate Members:  are undergraduates who are interested in biology but are ineligible for Regular Membership.  Associate Members shall be eligible to participate in all local, district, and national activities except those specifically reserved for Regular Members.  Lifetime membership is a onetime fee of $40.00.  There is never another national fee unless, when one meets the requirements, you want to upgrade to Regular Membership;  An Associate Member needs only to pay the difference and will be registered as a Regular Member after upgrading.  The $5.00 fee for the Fall/Spring semester for the Biology Club will still apply after the national fee is paid.

Regular Members:  are undergraduates majoring or minoring in any of the biological sciences.  Those applying for Regular Membership must have completed at least three terms of lecture courses in biology, at least one of these not at introductory level.  Applicants must be in good academic standing with an overall grade point average of 3.00 or greater in biology coursework and 3.00 cumulative GPA.  Only fully-inducted members may hold the constitutionally specified chapter offices, vote on chapter membership nominations and national questions, and represent the chapter or vote at national conventions. Lifetime membership is a onetime fee of $50.00.  The $5.00 fee for the Fall/Spring semester for the Biology Club will still apply after the national fee is paid.

Promoted Membership:  includes Associate Members of Tri-Beta who now qualify for Regular Membership.  There is a one-time fee of $10.00 to upgrade membership from Associate to Regular status.

Graduate Members:  includes anyone who has graduated with a Bachelors of Science. They may participate in the local activities, attend district or national conventions, and represent their chapter at a national convention.  They may not run for a constitutionally specified chapter office, vote on chapter membership or national matters.  They shall not be eligible for undergraduate awards.  Lifetime Membership is a onetime fee of $50.00. The $5.00 fee for the Fall/Spring semester for the Biology Club will still apply after the national fee is paid.

To apply for membership, contact Dr. Jim Bidlack (jbidlack@uco.edu) or Professor Linda Luna (lluna@uco.edu).

Biology Club

The Biology club is for people who are not Tri-Beta members, but are biology majors, interested in biology, looking to become involved in a UCO organization, or interested in meeting fellow students. All Biology Club Members can join us at our meetings and events, which are free and open to any and all interested students, faculty, staff, or members of the community. There is no fee, GPA requirement or need to have taken a biology course.

1. Attend a meeting.

2. Pay membership dues of $5/semester (for the pizza). At beginning and end of meetings, officers will be present to collect dues and write receipts.

After reading the above information, fill out the Membership Form and bring it to Dr. Jim Bidlack in Howell Hall Room 301B.
